I keep getting this message popping up from my task bar which says "Update is ready to install". It is an Adobe Reader Installer, and when I follow the instructions it goes up to a certain point and never seems to complete the update. When I look up my All Programs list, I have Adobe Reader 9.5.0, Adobe Premier Standard, Adobe Flash Player 11 Active and Adobe Flash Player 11 Plug In. What do all these mean? Do I need to actually get this Adobe Updater done? I use Windows XP Professional.

adobe reader is at version 11.0.03

first I would uninstall all adobe reader on your pc, reboot and then go to adobe and download the latest version of reader:

1. what is your current antivirus?

2. do the following to ensure your system is clean, since adobe is blocked from updating probably from malware:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All (Ctrl-A), Copy (Ctrl-C) and then paste (Ctrl-V) the information back here in your next reply.

You can edit out any personal information.

Download, install, update and do full scan with these free malware detection programs:

Remove all found, reboot, and run again until scans run clean, these can be removed afterwards if you so choose.

I followed your instructions, but, as usual the installation goes to about 60% and then gives an error message. I have copied the details you requested. Do they help? Here goes:

unless your system is a 64 bit system you are way out of date and should be up to sp3

download manually and install, then go directly to Microsoft updates and install a slew of updates.

do a high priority scan and install all

then do a custom scan and install any Rootkit updates available.

reboot as necessary.

…you can ignore the text that says that it is for network installations and also ignore the text advising Windows/Microsoft Update if only updating one PC.

to see if your system is 32 or 64 bit, go to start, right click on my computer and choose properties:

on the general tab under system if you do not see 64bit then you have a 32bit.

if you see 64bit, then you are at the proper service pack as 64bit only goes to sp2.

also, what is your current antivirus?

I have tried installing version 11.0 of Adobe, but the installation only goes halfway and then gives up. I have uninstalled Norton Anti Virus and McAfee Security Scan Plus which I found under Programs. Doesn't seem to make any difference. When I check Windows Security Centre, it says "Virus Protection On", but there seems to be no way to temporarily disable it. Now I'm even having trouble installing Adobe Reader 9.5., so everything is in a bit of a picke at present.

Is it time for Recovery Disk? I don't want to resort to that, as it means wiping out all the settings with which I have been comfortable for so long.

This page is a comprehensive guide, which will remove “Driver Updater is ready to install” virus from your computer and any other adware program that may have been installed during the setup process.

To view the most recently installed programs, you can click on the “Installed On” column to sort your programs by the installation date. Scroll through the list, and uninstall any unwanted or unknown program.

If you cannot find any unwanted or unknown programs on your machine, then you can proceed with the next step.

The AdwCleaner utility will scan your computer and web browser for the “Driver Updater is ready to install” malicious files, browser extensions and registry keys, that may have been installed on your computer without your knowledge.
